Musical Matinee with Haley Sarfeld

featuring songs from Half Past Lunchtime and The Lindworm's Cabaret

March 23 at 12:30pm
Open to: Everyone!
Free + in-person program

Join local composer-lyricist Haley Sarfeld for an afternoon of strange and spectacular songs at Union Gallery. This musical revue features songs from Half Past Lunchtime and The Lindworm’s Cabaret, as well as some deeper cuts from Haley’s songwriting catalogue. Playful lyrics and unexpected melodies dance across chord progressions that draw from jazz, classical, and folk influences.

Music is written and composed by Haley Sarfeld, and accompanied by Jon Barton, Michael Broadhead, Rogan Gowan, and Mariah “Mo” Horner.

Haley is joined by a delightful ensemble of friends: Jon Barton (percussionist), Michael Broadhead (bassist), Rogan Gowan (pianist/guitarist), and Mariah “Mo” Horner (vocalist).

This matinee is free to attend and is part of a series of performances celebrating women in music supported by the Music Performance Trust Fund and the Union of Professional Musicians Local 518.

About the works: The Lindworm’s Cabaret is an adaptation of a folk tale about belonging, family, gender, and onions. This musical in development has received support through the Watershed Festival: Reimagining Music Theatre (New Works Showcase 2023) and the Kick & Push Festival (Artist Residency 2023). Half Past Lunchtime is a love letter to Kingston’s Inner Harbour neighbourhood, first developed for the CFRC 101.9FM and the Cellar Door Project’s Shortwave Theatre Festival (2022) as a one-hour radio play featuring 8 original songs. An audio excerpt from Half Past Lunchtime was featured in the Union Gallery’s Gentle Disruptions exhibition (2023).

Note: The songs in this performance, though generally lighthearted, occasionally deal with themes of depression, suicide, injury, and death. There is one song with a swear word that can be omitted if any children are around. All are welcome.
