In collaboration with Queen's Reads and Queen's Collage Collectives, Union Gallery presents the Queer Kinship Series. This program builds relationships between queer students, staff, faculty, and other community members using the 2021-2022 Queen's Reads book I Hope We Choose Love by Kai Cheng Thom. In this Queer Kinship event, Queen's Reads will collaborate with Queen's Collage Collectives to facilitate a discussion about chosen families.

Questions we will explore at this session include:
How have you found queer community / kinship in university?
What do you love about queer kinships?
What does it mean to be part of a chosen family?

Attendees will be invited to submit pieces created at this event to the Queen’s Reads queer art show: Honesty, Glory, and Possibility: Queer Experiences of Gender, which will take place at Union Gallery in April. We will open submissions for the this exhibition at the end of January!

Queen's Collage Collectives

Queen’s Collage Collectives is a club on Queen’s campus. Our events are for healing, expression and the strengthening of mental health through creating art. We aim to provide an accountable space to facilitate anti-oppressive conversation. You can find more information about Queen's Collage Collectives throught their Facebook Page.

Queen's Reads

Each year, a committee of students, staff, and faculty chooses a book for our Queen's community to read together. These books are ones that encourage readers to listen to underrepresented voices and frequently unheard stories. Through events and programming, Queen's community members are invited to meaningfully participate in critical and creative conversations that are inspired by the Queen's Reads books with a specific focus on questions concerning equity, diversity, and inclusion; community dialogue; and hope. All Queen's community members can opt into the Queen's Reads program and receive a free copy of the book. For the 2021-2022-year, electronic and limited physical copies of the Queen’s Reads book I Hope We Choose Love by Kai Cheng Thom are available on campus. If you have any questions about Queen's Reads, please contact Clarissa de Leon (co-ordinator): clarissa.deleon@queensu.ca
