with Morgan Wedderspoon + Abby Nowakowski
IN-PERSON: June 28, 2023, 6–8pm
VIRTUAL: July 26, 2023, 6–8pm
Mini Wheatpasting is a hands-on, play-centred, activist-rooted workshop led by UG staff Abby and Morgan. In this 2-hour workshop, participants will learn a variety of techniques and approaches to wheatpasting; the process of adhering paper onto a surface using starches and water. Commonly used to seamlessly put up posters, wheatpasting can also be used in bookbinding, collage, papier-mâché, and of course trouble-making.
This workshop is offered IN-PERSON or ONLINE
IN-PERSON: Participants will be invited to work directly on the gallery walls, building upon Gentle Disruptions–an exhibition that explores how covert and playful acts can lead to a more kind, equity-amplified environment.
ONLINE: Remotely, folks will learn how to prep, design, and create DIY wheatpaste projects that they can spread as they wish. Abby’s favourite wheatpasting locations are public washrooms and quiet bus stops.

Abby Nowakowski (she/they) is a queer interdisciplinary artist and art educator who is driven by curiosity and kindness. Abby currently lives and works as an uninvited guest on the traditional land of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek.
