Volunteers are an essential part of Union Gallery. We aim to offer volunteer opportunities that are as beneficial to our volunteers as they are to our organization. Our volunteer positions centre experiential learning. Volunteer terms are 1 semester (two 3 hr shifts/week ), with the option to extend. Volunteer terms may take place in the Fall, Winter or Spring/Summer semester and are dependent on gallery capacity. There are many ways that volunteers can get involved with UG. Volunteer positions are open to Queen's University and other post-secondary students at both the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as artists and community members.
All volunteers are the front-line of gallery reception, welcoming visitors during open hours and public events. They directly support exhibition installation and gain hands-on experience with art handling, archives, visitor experience, and program assistance.
Interested individuals are invited to submit an online application by September 9, 2023. Acceptance will be based on interviews and is contingent on gallery capacity. Applicants are invited to identify their preferred volunteer areas of interest, which will be taken into consideration alongside evolving gallery needs. As a space centred in experiential learning, previous gallery experience is not required. Applications will be reviewed by the Program Director. All those who submit interest will be contacted. Short-listed applicants will be contacted for an interview.
