The gallery exhibition program supports the presentation of visual art that reflects a contemporary art practice by pre-professional student artists and professional artists including visual, interdisciplinary and time-based artworks, both solo and group shows. We also accept submissions for curatorial projects, events, and workshops. There are two exhibition spaces the main gallery (approx. 1000 square ft) and the project room (16'x10'x16' a self-contained space located inside the main gallery. The project room mandate is to present installation, new media, time and sound-based works although other proposals will be considered.
Deadline for submissions: April 12, 2019, midnight.
Works of art are often created through a process which mirrors methods of inquiry in other fields and result in products that embody these processes-the brush strokes, the edited video, the sculptural material, the inked paper. It is through these processes where information is generated, analyzed and interpreted. The studio experience can be both theoretical and practical, where constant experimentation, problem solving, and intuitive decision-making is fundamental to the project of art making. With this in mind, in what ways do artistic discoveries emerge? In what ways is the creative process uniquely positioned to explore the interplay between objective and subjective experience?
The Union Gallery is accepting submissions from 4th year BFA students for a curated group exhibition that seeks to explore the process of art making and the concepts or ideas that motivate the work. The gallery supports the presentation of high quality contemporary art and we accept work in all media. Works in progress will be considered as long as they provide a clear idea of the finished piece and if selected, they must be completed by April 27th for delivery to the gallery on April 30th.
