Emily Zielke , Wednesday of the Week, details , installation, 2014

Wednesday of the Week is an installation and performance that reflects on the artist’s interest in exploring the complexities of the human condition and the rigidity of social conventions. The work includes a psychiatric ‘help’ booth much like the one in Charles Schulz, ‘Peanuts’ comic, and sculptural elements in the form of life-sized figures that represent the artist’s personal anxieties. Constructed of materials that make them appear unfinished and unsettled the figures are positioned in a chaotic formation behind the artist as she invites visitors to engage in conversation at various times throughout the exhibition.

Emily Zielke is a fourth year Fine Art student at Queen’s University. She is an interdisciplinary artist who works in sculpture, painting, mixed media, in addition to playing and performing music. Emily is currently a live-in member of the Artel collective in Kingston.
