In the Grain brings together a series of handcrafted wooden templates, modelled after longboard decks, to serve as canvas for a series of thematic linked illustrations. These works utilize exisiting marks and layers on the templates in juxtaposition with the illustrations to reflect the artist’s interest in using a functional object as a way to examine issues around high and low art and popular culture. Anya Mielniczek is a 4th year BFA student at Queen’s University.
