STUDENT-LED COMMITTEE

Union Gallery is thrilled to invite applications for three new Student-Led Committees. Members of these committees will work closely with UG core staff and Board Members to shape the gallery's exhibitions, public programming, fundraising and community outreach initiatives. Our Board of Directors is composed of artists, arts administrators, and other professionals who contribute experience in fundraising, financial management, human resources, equity work, administration, and technical expertise, working collaboratively with staff to oversee the operations and strategic direction of the organization. In keeping with our mandate as a student-centred organization, these new committees will empower students to lend their direction in the areas of Programming (exhibitions & parallel programs), Outreach (audience & membership development), Fundraising (sponsorship & event planning).

Each committee will be composed of seven members: five students with various levels of experience, one board member from Union Gallery’s Board of Directors, and one staff member from the gallery. Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Union Gallery is committed to diversifying our governance structures in accordance with our mandate to provide an inclusive, supportive space that contributes to change within the arts and cultural sector at large. We encourage applications from members of the local Kanyen’kehá:ka community, other Indigenous students, students from racialized communities, students with disabilities, students from across the spectrums of sexual orientation, gender, class and neuro-diversity, and students with the skills, curiosity and humility to productively engage with diverse communities. Union Gallery recognizes that the time commitment demanded by participation in the Student-Led Committees will have varying impact on people who occupy different social locations. As part of our strategy to make this service opportunity as equitable as possible, Union Gallery will invite students who may otherwise be discouraged or unable to participate to self-identify as needing remuneration and will offer a one-time honorarium paid out at the end of a year’s service to these members only. Honoraria will range from $200-$500 depending on availability of funds and the number of requests received. We expect all Committee Members to share this core value of equity, and support the unequal-but-equitable distribution of resources in order to foster greater diversity within the gallery’s volunteer ecosystem.

Accessibility

Union Gallery works to make our exhibitions, programming and governance accessible to all. Student-Led Committee meetings will be online and/or in-person, dependent upon the needs of the members of each committee.

EQUITY STATEMENT

Union Gallery is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our programming and operations. UG welcomes applications from qualified individuals of all sexualities, races, gender identities, socioeconomic statuses, and (dis)abilities. We strongly encourage applications from equity-seeking communities. UG recognizes that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), QPOC (Queer People of Colour) and 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, +) are disproportionately underrepresented within institutional art spaces. Due to ongoing systemic barriers, UG prioritizes applicants who self-identify as BIPOC, QPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+. If you would like to, please indicate if you self-identify as a member of any equity-seeking groups in your application.
