Monika Rosen, Eisoptrophobia II , oil on canvas, 2012
Self-Refraction consists of a series of oil paintings that search for clarity in self-perception. Monika Rosen’s work depicts close-up figures that are partially obscured by water, resembling momentary but vivid manifestations of one’s thoughts. Through the use of water and light as symbols, she alludes to the relationship between the subconscious and reality.
Monika Rosen is a fourth year student in the Fina Art Programme at Queen’s University. She has also studied at the Bader International Study Centre, and the Venice Summer School through Queen’s last spring. She hopes that one day NASA will be in dire need of an artist in space. Monika Rosen was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario.
