Working Out
Working Out, silkscreen print, 2006

The piece, Working Out has been specially conceived for the Project Room at the Union Gallery and consists of a series of silkscreen prints honouring couples. After getting married, I started to question myself and wanted to research what make certain unions work out and what make others fail. Looking at the experience of married couples, I realized that the way I chose to live my married life should not be influenced by anyone but my spouse and I. Working Out is a tribute to the effort put forth by each partner irregardless of their marital status.

Valérie Lajeunesse, from Charny Québec, previously studied Art in Québec but is in her final year of study in the Fine Art program here at Queens University. She explores the various printmaking methods and focuses her work on the notion of life and its expectations from a woman’s point of view.
