The non-representational paintings in the exhibition by Gabor Kokas explore the use of texture under simple, and nearly monotone colours. Texture is used to portray a biologically-inspired pattern, in a subtle, yet vibrant manner. Although Kokas' artistic inspiration derives from the aesthetic of natural forms, the composition remains geometric. The depth of the image is built up, using medium-rich multiple layers that reveal subtle gradations and transparencies.
Justin Wu's photographs portray varying concepts that reveal subtle layers of significance through black and white and saturated mediums. The series of photographs delves into different hues of mood and explore the intricate facets of photography and the subject matter revolves around organic abstractions. Through the process of capturing the image, multi-varying or uniform textures are spotted, followed by the discovery of concepts from the scene, and then composed in shades or hues. Aesthetics in all prints are central, while diversity in composition remain invariable for originality. He attempts to find beauty in scenes society overlooks, take mundane moments or subject matter, and let them blossom on film.
