Mirage Series, 2005, (6.5ft x 18 ft)

Mirage is an exhibition of large-scale drawings by Saskatchewan-based artist Alison Norlen. This body of exquisitely rendered drawings depict haunting images of architectural structures evoking places “seen and unseen, remembered for some reason but no longer functioning.” The works reflect the artist’s “fascination with cultural artifice and the complexities of fantasy and constructed idyllic sites.”

Alison Norlen has received substantial recognition for her work and has shown in solo and group shows nationally and internationally. She has received numerous Canada Council and Manitoba Arts Council grants and recently was successful in receiving the Canada Council International residency grant for a residency in Trinidad. Ms. Norlen currently teaches at the University of Saskatchewan in the Art and Art History Department.
